Digitimes, the often unreliable source for gadget scoops, is reporting that Google will take on the Amazon Kindle in the ongoing tablet Armageddon.

STORY: Kindle Fire Tablet Just Another Killer On The Loose!

The Taiwanese site claims that the Google-made tablet will outsell and undercut Amazon’s already affordable $199 Kindle Fire with an even lower price.

It also said that the device will run on Android 4.0 (a.k.a. Ice Cream Sandwich), will debut in March or April and could be a part of Google’s Nexus brand.

There is some credibility to Digi’s claims: Last month Eric Schmidt, Google’s overlord and CEO, told an Italian newspaper that his company plans to produce an Android tablet of the “highest quality” within the next six months.

Although Google has its OS on several tablets, it does not have a tablet of its own.
Google did not comment on Schmidt’s statement, so … stay tuned!
