Known for its reputation as a hard-working industry steel town with bridges, rivers, and a 6-time winning Super Bowl team, Pittsburgh has never really been viewed as the NYC or L.A. for upcoming talent or music.

But with the recent and continued success of Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller, we’ve started to see some other truly talented emerging artists coming from the “black and yellow” city, one of those artists being Chevy Woods.

NEW MUSICWiz Khalifa “Mary 3x”

A member of Taylor Gang and known to be Wiz’s right hand man, Chevy has gained a lot of his popularity from the collaborations the two have done together.

However, Chevy Woods has his own following and has had the Internet buzzing for quite some time off his own music, as he independently released three successful mixtapes; Pilot, Red Cup Music, & The Cookout.

GlobalGrind got a chance to chat with the up and coming music phenom who dishes on his relationship with Wiz, his own musical and personal style, as well as some advice he has for the President!

Check out the exclusive interview below!

Tell us a little bit about what you’re working on right now.

Right now I’m working on a mixtape, I’m working on an album, and I’m just working! A lot of work, work, work, work, work… and more immediate, you’ll hear me on the new Taylor Allderdice mixtape.

You’ve been on the scene for a little while now, but you’re still seen as a new artist under the wing of Wiz Khalifa. What’s your relationship with him and how do you two differentiate from each other?

Going back some years, I was running around doing what I do and Wiz was doing what he does at the studio and I just happened to call around to and find a studio to record at and we met up. We talked for a little bit and from there, it become a brotherly relationship.

I’m different from him because he grew up in a military type of life and I grew up with a mom who was a secretary for the board of education. I had to have good grades as far as school.

And after high school, I did a year of college and didn’t like it, so the streets were what it was for the moment. But then me and Wiz met and now that’s what it is.

Who is your inspiration musically and do you feel like your sound is similar to any other artist?

I don’t think I sound like anybody. If I want to take from people, maybe a Lloyd Banks or a Jadakiss type of sound, but not so much everything from them. And not really a G-unit sound either. It’s just kind of those two together with a little bit of knowledge from Wiz and everything I’ve done in my past all mixed into one ball. It’s really just me, but I listen to those guys a lot.

Who’s in your headphones right now that you listen to a lot?

I listen to a lot of Rick Ross. I listen to a lot of French Montana, old Birdman, old Hot Boyz, old Lil Wayne…maybe five years ago.

What is your favorite go-to style, what do you like to wear and put on?

I like to wear maybe some cool blue jeans. I like Adidas, like tracksuits, a nice cool fitted. And every time I wear a hat people are like, ‘Oh dude! You got on THAT hat?!’ But I’m not necessarily a fan of the team, I’m just wearing a hat. But when I do wear a hat and shirt it means a different thing.

If you were president, what’s the first thing you’d implement?

Legalize marijuana, let everyone get high, no one ever died off of weed, as far as consuming it, no one ever passed out or fell out. Legalize weed and the world will be at peace. It’s like a rainbow, you smoke weed and you feel happy. You don’t argue. A lot of people smoke weed to calm them down and there’s no telling who does it, including the President.
