What a disappointment!

BLOG: White Republicans Don’t Care About Trayvon!

Over a month ago, Trayvon Martin was murdered on grounds of self-defense by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman in Sanford, Florida. Zimmerman told authorities that Trayvon, who wore a hoodie, jeans and a pair of white/red sneakers, looked suspicious.

Zimmerman, who called 911 once he spotted Trayvon, decided to pursue the teenage boy even after the 911 dispatcher urged him not to. Once Zimmerman approached Trayvon, the two allegedly got into a scuffle, which ended with 17-year old Trayvon dead with a bullet in his chest.

Since the incident, the entire American community has expressed outrage. To our disappointment, much of the outrage has been concentrated in the Black community or amongst Democrats, a new study published by CNN suggests.

As reported by CNN:

Far more Republicans (56%) than Democrats (25%) say there has been too much coverage of Martin’s death, according to Pew, which surveyed a “nationally representative sample of 1,000 adults” last Thursday through Sunday about top new stories.

In addition, 43% of whites said the story has garnered too much coverage, compared with just 16% of blacks, Pew said.

A division due to race and political affiliation on such as tragic issue is just another reminder for why we need to continue to fight for justice in the case of Trayvon Martin.
