When I first strutted down the runway over 10 years ago, showing off the newest collection for Phat Farm, I was on cloud nine. Representing for Russell Simmons, a legend in entertainment, and (then) soon-to-be fashion industry mogul, gave me a sign that my modeling career had gotten a jumpstart. A few years later, Mr. Simmons provoked a new sense of accomplishment when, as a fashion stylist, I walked into his showroom, to pick out clothing for a client.  Fast forward to the present and, once again, I can use Mr. Simmons as a surefire sign that I’m headed in the right direction! I am both inspired and humbled, to join the Global Grind team as a celebrity blogger/fashion writer.

I often find myself referring to Michelle Obama when I’m engaged in conversations about talented young designers that are frequently overlooked.  I speak of her courage to showcase two not-so-well-known designers (Jason Wu and Isabel Toledo) during the 2009 Inaugural Ceremonies.  A woman who knew all eyes would be on her, and who’s wardrobe selections would be talked about in every media outlet around the world, used her “Oprah-esque” status to allow these raw talents to shine.  Although their combined years of experience could prove them both to be seasoned professionals, to many, they were the new kids on the block.

As an insider in the fashion industry, I’ve had an exclusive invitation to watch numerous designers come and go in the blink of an eye.  Many of which I felt that only if they had the right exposure, could have added years (even decades) to their short-lived careers.  Now, with a platform such as Global Grind, I pledge to give the much needed (and in some cases, overdue) recognition to these young geniuses and to give you, the viewers, a front row seat to witness their fashion careers blossom.
