A Phoenix boy was a hero and a villain when he shot an intruder almost killing him.

The 14-year-old boy was baby-sitting his siblings, aged 8,10 and 12, at home when a woman rang the bell. Trained not to open the door for strangers, the 14 year old ignored the knocking at the door that soon escalated to a loud banging.

Frightened, the young boy ran up to his father’s room to retrieve a gun and safe guard his siblings. An intruder rushed in shortly after and the young boy fired the gun hitting the robber with one shot. 

The 37-year-old man, who was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition and underwent surgery. The man was upgraded to critical condition and is expected to survive and be booked into jail within the week on counts of aggravated assault and burglary, the woman who was assisting the robber got away.

Holmes said that the gun the teen grabbed was his father’s, but did not know whether the boy had been trained to use it.
He said the family, whose names were not released, is declining to speak to reporters about the ordeal, saying that they “are all pretty traumatized.”
