Come this November, Pennsylvanians will be required to show government-issued photo identification in order to cast votes. This is all thanks to Pennsylvania Republican Governor Tom Corbett.

Supporters of the law argue that this helps fight voter fraud. However, it also disenfranchises over 750,000 registered Pennsylvania voters, who don’t currently possess photo ID issued by the Department of Transportation.

In Pennsylvania, 758,00 registered voters don’t have driver’s licenses. That’s 9.2 percent of the state’s 8.2 million voters.

Mike Turzai, Pennsylvania GOP House Majority Leader, told a group of cheering attendees at a Republican State Committee meeting:

“Voter ID — which is going to allow Gov. [Mitt] Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania — done.”

Opponents reacted quickly to Turzai, who say that the law was clearly set up to take away Democratic voters, and benefit Republican candidate Mitt Romney.

This surely puts President Barack Obama in a precarious position, as Pennsylvania is a key swing state.
