Widely recognized painter Daniel Simmons Jr., Uncle Rush’s brother, is set to bring his creative spirit to Strivers Garden Gallery in Harlem for a free exhibition titled “eMerge: Danny Simmons & Artists on the Cusp.”

The exhibition, which is co-curated by Lisa D. Hayes, Esq. of Strivers Garden Gallery and Souleo of Souleo Enterprises, LLC, will run from July 12 to September 7, and showcase the emerging artists transforming everyday materials, like teabags, thumbtacks and buttons, into fine art. One of the features will also include Simmons’ The Door piece that consists of a combination of painting and poetry on a wooden door.

Published author Danny Simmons is also the co-founder of Rush Arts Gallery and Research Center, a program under Rush Philanthropic Foundation, and he is co-creator and executive producer of the HBO series Def Poetry Jam.

For years, Simmons has used his artwork to explore how a spiritual connection is developed and nurtured through art and he uses his experience and knowledge of the industry to help jump start the career of up and coming talented artists.

“My life’s work has been dedicated to providing opportunity to emerging artists,” says Danny. “My Rush Art Gallery has helped to launch the career of some of the world’s most noted artist of color.”
