After two weeks of all we could consume sports, this leap year’s Summer Olympics have come to a close. That means there is still a solid two weeks of all things Olympic themed still creeping around the bend, including what may be an misogynist t-shirt from Nike.

American women dominated the Olympics this year, bringing home more than half of the American medals, and Nike thought the best way to reward them would be with a graphic t-shirt that read “Gold Digging” in metallic gold writing.
American women accounted for 58 of the country’s 104 overall medals and 29 of the 46 overall gold medals, so that sounds a lot more like gold winning than gold digging.

Nike claims that the shirts are not sexist and are just using a very common phrase, but the problem seems to be that the $25 shirts are only available in female sizes.
According to Forbes magazine, the company said:
“Nike has consistently supported female athletes and the position they enjoy as positive role models. The t-shirt uses a phrase in an ironic way that is relevant given it was released just as the world focused on the success of female athletes.”
