Leave it up to Fox News to snitch on a U.S. Navy SEAL.
The Navy SEAL who wrote about the raid that killed Osama bin Laden – under a pseudonym – was outed by Fox News as Matt Bissonnette.
Bissonnette retired from the Navy last summer after the infamous raid that killed the world’s number one terrorist.
Bissonnette is from Virginia Beach, Va and was outed by Fox News and confirmed by the Associated Press.
One current and one former U.S. military official confirmed the name, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss military personnel matters.
The book, titled “No Easy Day,” is scheduled to be released Sept. 11 under the pseudonym Mark Owen. Penguin Group (USA)’s Dutton imprint, the publisher, asked news organizations Thursday to withhold his identity.
The book and the author’s name come during a time of debate over the possible damage to U.S. national security by leaks to the media.
Why would Fox News out a Navy SEAL who made the world a safer place? Not only did they reveal the identity of the SEAL Team Six member, but it could possibly lead to the unveiling of other men involved in the raid.
In response to Fox’s editorial Penguin, the company publishing the book, issued a statement to the New York Times, citing:
“Obvious risks to his personal security” by writing “No Easy Day,” and that this was the only reason it was being published with a pseudonym…We respectfully request that all news organizations and all Americans consider these facts when deciding whether to pursue or publicize his real identity.”
Isn’t this a national security issue and shouldn’t Fox News be subjected to some sort of prosecution?
