Throughout recent years it is commonly been said that there are no real artists and musicians anymore. While that couldn’t possibly be true, I do agree that the more soulful, non pop artists and musicians do not get equal exposure these days.  While I respect the new movement of artists like Drake, Trey Songz, and Nikki Minaj, I would be lying if I didn’t acknowledge that I haven’t heard the new Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, or Aretha Franklin in the industry. Which brings me to an artist I recently became aware of – Esnavi.

Esnavi (Eclectic, Soulful, Natural, Authentic, Vivacious, and Intriguing) is a Harlem transplant and Milwaukee native that is creating quite a buzz. She has been making waves internationally on a Top 40 chart and has begun gaining spins on local radio stations all from her grassroots efforts. She is selling CD’s at shows and digitally on e-stores like iTunes. She compares her hustle to that of Master P when he was creating No Limit.

I came across this artist by way of a new music website where some of her songs were being featured.  From the first notes of her song Morning Dew I was hooked and wanted to hear more. I went searching on the net and didn’t find much, so I went looking for her on Facebook. I reached out to her and we met at a show where she performed in the D.C. area. All I can say is the music was as good live as on the CD. What amazed me was that she sang flawlessly and wasn’t even performing with her own band or backup singers.

Her debut is somewhat reminiscent of India Arie’s first CD. She has a vocal that could definitely rival Jazmine Sullivan. Several stand out songs on her independent debut are How Beautiful Is He, Electric Fantasy, and Memories. I would advise anyone looking for a little more than the radio is offering these days to take a listen. You can preview her CD at http://esnavi.com/Music.aspx. Goodbye until I find the next great Global Grind Unsigned artist.
