Every 26 seconds a student drops out of high school; a third of all students fail to graduate high school; most low-income students who start, never finish college.

According to a College Board report in a generation, America has moved from first to twelfth place in the proportion of adults aged 25 to 34 with postsecondary degrees.

Recognizing America’s need to get its children and adults back on track, Get Schooled National Challenge and Tour was created to ‘energize, inspire, and engage Americans’ to take action, and  improve high school and college graduation rates.

A Youth Summit was held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Education Campus in Manhattan to kick off the tour. Over 800 students were surprised to find it would be hosted by Pharrell Williams, Ludacris, Keri Hilson, Sway Calloway and DJ Mars.

Parrell, Hilson, and Sway had students talking about their biggest challenges in school and how to identify and achieve educational goals.

The 9 city tour started off this weekend at the Staten Island Mall and the Kings Plaza in Brooklyn with Tom Papa, the Marriage Ref Host.

The events gave  people the opportunity to collect resources and information, recieve free giveways, and talk about how they are going to ‘Step Up to the Challenge’ on a video soapbox. The best soapbox entries will be made into a PSA and aired on Viacom properties.
