Senator John McCain, the Republican contender that lost his run for president to Barack Obama in 2008, said earlier this week that Mitt Romney’s “47 percent” comment is not really what he meant to say.

STORY: C’mon Son! Cain Says HE Could Beat Obama

In a leaked video exposed by Mother Jones, Romney makes candid remarks trashing half of the nation and Obama supporters as “victims” and government dependents that feel “entitled” to health care, food and housing. The viral video pretty much speaks for itself, but somehow McCain has found a way to twist Romney’s harsh statements into meaning something else.

Speaking on CNN, McCain implied that Romney simply misspoke when he infamously bashed 47 percent of Americans as moochers. McCain went on to compare Romney’s slip up to the time that President Obama was caught belittling conservatives for voting based on guns and God politics back in 2008, and his own gaffe about the economic downturn.

“I don’t think that’s what he meant any more than Barack Obama meant when he said that people cling to guns and Bibles. There is things that people say — millions of statements every day. I don’t know if you remember when I said the fundamentals of the economy are strong even though we’re in a fiscal crisis — oh my god!”

Money Mitt’s economic slur was pretty direct and profound. It’s hard to imagine that it’s not what he really meant to say. We don’t buy it. Do you? Let us know in the comment section!
