Sup, GlobalGrind, it’s me again. Your boy Chrizo is back and you didn’t know I cut the hair of some of your favorite stars – Nick Cannon, Kevin Liles, Rick Ross, Juelz Santana and more.

Here in New York, people don’t change barbers to save their life! I know a few dudes who will travel all across the city to get their fade and a fresh line.

But what do you do if you find yourself out of town with no steady barber? How do you find a good one? Well, I’m going to break it down for you and give you 5 tips to find the best barber in the hood.

1. Clientele: Not saying that some barbers without a big client list won’t be nice with the clippers, but they might be just starting out, so they may not have seen your type of hair before. That might be disastrous – especially if you have an important job interview or a date. So make sure your potential barber has a good client list, so you can sit and watch and see if he can cut hair!

2. Time Management: How time efficient is your potential barber? Time is money and while some people don’t mind spending an entire Saturday morning in the barbershop, other people do. If it takes your barber an hour to do a shape up, you might want to look elsewhere.

3. Cleanliness Is Key: Does he disinfect his clippers? If not, do not pass go, do not spend any dollars and under no circumstances, do you get in his chair.

4. Confidence: Make sure the guy is good at his job and efficient. The barber has to be confident. Always try to get a barber who’s confident in what he’s doing, because if he’s not confident, then that means he’ll be shaky. He might not feel like he’s doing a good job and that’s how you end up with a bad hairline.

5. The People’s Champ: You’ve got to find that barber that wants to give people what they want. This is one of the things I get a kick out of most as a barber. Making sure that when my clients looks in the mirror they say, “Oh, yes! This is exactly what I wanted. I’m fly now. I’m ready for the club. I’m ready for this wedding. I’m ready for the streets,” Whatever they’re doing. “I’m ready for this date.” I know guys that won’t go out if they don’t have a haircut at all and I know barbers who feel like they know what the customer wants better than the customer himself.

Once you find these 5 things, you’ll have the best barber in town. We’re men, we don’t care how fresh our clothes are, or how much money we got in our pocket. But if our hair is not right, that kind of seals the deal – we’re not going!
