M.I.A. is flipping the bird both literally and figuratively in the November issue of Paper Magazine.

Styled by Tom Manaton, the 37-year old singer shows off her eclectic fashion sense for the magazine. The accompanying editorial touches on her expansion from her career as a musician to both an author and artist.

M.I.A. has released a new coffee table cook and will be putting together her own gallery exhibit of original illustrations in India. Her exhibit, like her book, will contain a collection of artwork she made to accompany each of her albums – Arular, Kala, Maya.

Many of you may know that M.I.A. got her start as an artist by designing album covers for Justine Frischmann of Elastica, and selling some of her early work to Jude Law.

She relays to the magazine that like music, her art is simply another way of telling her story.

“People have heard the journey through music. Now it’s like exploring the journey to this point through visuals.”

M.I.A. is the only artist ever to be nominated for an Academy Award, Grammy Award, Brit Award, Mercury Prize and the Alternative Turner Prize. So you can be sure she is much more than a pretty face and a good song.
