The highly-anticipated biopic of pioneering gangsta rap group N.W.A is still in its early stages, but already things look promising. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Andrea Berloff has just signed on to write the script for Straight Outta Compton, the current title for the story about the rise and fall the rap group who rose to prominence in the late 1980’s.

Berloff who wrote the screenplay for Oliver Stone’s World Trade Center, is known in Hollywood for her work on true life stories. In addition to World Trade Center, Berloff also wrote The Fugees a true-life story about a youth soccer team in Atlanta made up of international refugees, adapted from a New York Times article.

Straight Outta Compton will be produced in part by Ice Cube (former N.W.A member) and partner Matt Alvarez for Cube Vision. Tomica Woods, widow of N.W.A founder Eric ‘Eazy-E’ Wright and owner of N.W.A song rights, is also a producer. Together, they will work with New Line to put out the film, which we’re willing to bet is going to come out before former N.W.A member Dr. Dre releases Detox.

So now we have a writer, producers, a studio, maybe next on the list is casting. Who’s playing who? Will Ice Cube play himself? If not, who would? Whose playing Eazy? Dr. Dre? And let’s not forget MC Ren and DJ Yella. We have some ideas, but we’d like to hear yours too. Go to the next page to watch the original music video for ‘Straight Outta Compton’.  Jozen Cummings
