The newly sworn in President of The United States kicked off the inaugural party festivities by complimenting his guests at the Commander-In-Chief’s ball:
“Let me begin by just saying you all dress up pretty nice!”
It was the first comment from Barack Obama before one of two balls commenced in his honor on Jan. 21 after his inaugural ceremonies. At that moment, Vice President Joe Biden addressed and thanked the crowd gathering at the American Legion Ball, which Obama was scheduled to visit later.

Donning a snow-white bow tie, the President thanked Americans, harping back his speech earlier that day when he implored the crowd to seize the moment together.
“We are going forward,” he said.
But the serious moment was short-lived, as performances by Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson, Marc Anthony, Brad Paisley, FUN, John Legend, Mana, Stevie Wonder, Soundgarden, Usher, Katy Perry, Smokey Robinson, Mindless Behavior and the Glee cast got the crowd (and the President) hype.
Alicia Keys did a remixed rendition of her hit “Girl on Fire,” plugging in Obama and the First Lady’s names earlier in the evening.
Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, also appeared at the two balls, dancing to Jamie Foxx performing Ray Charles’ “I Can’t Stop Loving You.”
Jennifer Hudson sang Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” as Michelle Obama, dressed in a red chiffon and velvet Jason Wu gown, grooved with the President during their first dance.
This makes it the second time Michelle Obama chose the designer to don for her inaugural rounds. According to CNN:
The First Lady is wearing a custom Jason Wu ruby colored chiffon and velvet gown with a handmade diamond embellished ring by jewelry designer Kimberly McDonald. She is wearing shoes designed by Jimmy Choo. At the end of the Inaugural festivities, the outfit and accompanying accessories will go to the National Archives.
