For years customers have been skeptical as to whether a “Footlong “Subway sandwich is actually a foot long.

After many came forward with measurements that the bread length was only 11 inches, the company has issued as apology, as well as a vow to change the bread.

The sandwich company first issued a statement that said the “Footlong” was just a trademark, and not an actual length for the sandwich.

According to Eater, their apology reads:

For 47 years, customer satisfaction has been our top priority. We regret any instance where we did not fully deliver on our promise to our customers. We freshly bake our bread throughout the day in our more than 38,000 restaurants in 100 countries worldwide, and we have redoubled our efforts to ensure consistency and correct length in every sandwich we serve. Our commitment remains steadfast to ensure that every SUBWAY® Footlong sandwich is 12 inches at each location worldwide.

We can’t wait to get our hands on a real foot long sub!
