We officially have a Pope! Pope Francis held his inaugural mass on Tuesday with up to 1 million pilgrims—including Joe Biden and Robert Mugabe—in the Vatican. But it was our cool VP that stole the show (see above), looking dapper as ever. But no worries, Pope Francis proved his dedication to the mass was no joke as he exited the popemobile and kissed a disabled man as part of his trip around through the crowd. [DailyBeast]

Surprisingly, some inmates at a New York prison prove there is at least one place in America where rape isn’t tolerated. David Renz, who is accused of killing a Syracuse woman and raping her 10-year-old daughter during a carjacking, was beaten and suffered a broken nose on his first day in jail, authorities said. Prayers! A bus packed with passengers crashed through a guard rail and fell off a bridge in western India early Tuesday, killing at least 37 people and injuring another 15, police said. [HuffPost]

Murder charges? Nelson Mandela’s ex-wife Winnie expressed “surprise and shock” that prosecutors are considering charges against her following the exhumation of bodies believed to belong to two young activists last seen at her home 24 years ago. She said it is “difficult to legally imagine how and what new evidence is contemplated” given the many diverse accounts presented more than 10 years ago to South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
