Yeah, yeah — fresh off a flight from some place hot. NYC rest assure, that heat wave is coming, and I’m not talking about the weather. I’ve been saying NYC is having a rebirth in its hip-hop scene. Need proof? Check this new Troy Ave song “We Ain’t You.” It features Nitty Scott MC and Pro Era’s CJ Fly. It’s off that new Peter Rosenberg & Ecko Unltd. mixtape New York Renaissance. Make sure you peep it out…[pagebreak]
Uh oh: Another Snoop Lion track. I can’t front, when I first saw that this week’s Snoop track featured Miley Cyrus I was a bit skeptical. Not of Cyrus; she’s been doing her thing on the low in the hip-hop world. I’m still somewhat uncomfortable with this whole Snoop Lion thing though. Needless to say the song “Heartbreaks & Ashtrays” is perfect for what it is. It’s an inspiring song about getting back up on your feet. [pagebreak]
You know I love the female MCs and that includes Taylor Gang’s Lola Monroe. She is fresh off the pregnancy and back to work as the first lady of Wiz’s Army. I heard this new Mayer Hawthorne song that made me reminisce of my childhood. It’s called “Designer Drug”…go figure. The beat, the energy, the vibe, its all ‘80s, no doubt. It reminded me of The Whispers or Evelyn Champagne King. That whole era is stained in my mind right before hip-hop stole my soul.
Big week for Kid Cudi. Not only did he bounce from G.O.O.D. Music but his Indicud album hit the streets complete with the new single, “Girls,” featuring the OG Too $hort. Cudi can do no wrong right now. His style of rap teamed with the up and coming King Chip should rule the Midwest hip-hop scene — at least up to Chicago.
Until We Read Again…
