Its a sad day for hip-hop as it’s been announced that Vibe Magazine has been purchased by SpinMedia.
While it’s kind of a good thing, it’s sad because it means no more print magazines as they make their transition to becoming fully digital.
The Chicago Sun Times reports:
Vibe could follow the path of another landmark music magazine, SPIN, which Buzzmedia acquired last year. The company subsequently halted print production, opting instead for an online-only presence.
Vibe’s CEO Ari Horowitz went on to hint that online is the future by saying:
“Joining with SpinMedia will enable Vibe to continue to evolve and grow as a vibrant digital media brand.”
With that said, we’d like to celebrate Vibe. We all grew up on the magazine and it helped us learn what hip-hop truly is.
