As time progresses, it seems the case of the Boston Marathon bombings gets deeper and deeper as more details emerge.

As today marks the twentieth day since the tragic event we have recently discovered what was the exact cause of death of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, plans on the burial of his body and the suspects’ original plans of bombing on July 4th.

Today we have found new information on the domino effect of events since April 15th.

Here are the latest updates on the ongoing case.

1. Man Charged With Lying To Investigators Seeks Release:

Lawyers for a man charged with lying to investigators after the Boston Marathon bombings are asking a federal judge to release him from jail, claiming he had nothing to do with the deadly bombingsand isn’t a flight risk.

According to Yahoo! News:

Robel Phillipos, 19, of Cambridge, faces a detention hearing Monday in U.S. District Court. Defense attorneys said in court documents filed Saturday that authorities’ claim that Phillipos gave them conflicting accounts is “refutable.”

Lawyers Derege Demissie and Susan Church wrote:

“This case is about a frightened and confused 19 year old who was subjected to intense questioning and interrogation, without the benefit of counsel, and in the context of one of the worst attacks against the nation. The weight of the federal government under such circumstances can have a devastatingly crushing effect on the ability of an adolescent to withstand the enormous pressure and respond rationally.”

Phillipos was charged last week with lying to investigators about visiting bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev‘s college dorm room on April 18, just three days after the bombings. Two other friends were charged with conspiring to obstruct justice for taking a backpack with fireworks and a laptop from the same dorm room.

2. Security At Kentucky Derby Tightened Up In Wake Of The Boston Bombings:

Security plans have been reworked and implemented at a number of upcoming sporting events in hopes of minimizing the risks of an attack similar to that of the Boston Marathon bombing, and the latest is the Kentucky Derby.

Good Morning America’s Sports Contributor, Christine Brennan says:

“After Boston, these big events cannot even begin to roll the dice and say, ‘Maybe we can skip here or there. They’ve got to go all in and be as strong with their security as they have ever been.”

As spectators arrive at Churchill Downs for the famed Kentucky Derby today, they will have to leave their coolers, cans, and glass bottles behind. However the Derby fans’ trademark hats are still permissible but snapping flicks at the race will only be allowed if the camera doesn’t have a detachable lens.

That’s pretty understandable.

According to an arrest report, a 44-year-old man somehow snuck into Millionaires’ Row at Churchill Downs without a ticket on Thursday and then allegedly sat at a table and threatened to shoot people.

SMH!

He was later taken into custody and authorities did not find a weapon on the man.

3. Boston Double Amputee Emerges From The Hospital And Opens Hockey Game

Bombing victim, Jeff Bauman who lost both his legs in the massacre, was cheered on by fellow Bostonions on Saturday night as he served as the official flag bearer at the Boston Bruins hockey game in his hometown.

Just 19 days after the bombing, the 27-year-old proudly waved a black flag bearing the slogan ‘Boston Strong’ as thousands of his neighbors applauded the survivor before the Bruins game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at TD Garden in Boston.

The spotlight flashed and centered on Bauman, who sat in his wheelchair waving the flag and throwing his free arm in the air as the crowd cheered him on as a true survivor.
