The Obama administration wasted no time using drones after Obama’s counterterrorism speech last week

Earlier today, a U.S. drone strike killed at least six suspected militants in Pakistan, making this the first of such attacks since President Obama laid out his new guidelines for the use of drones.

The attack on Chashma village near Miranshah, the main town of lawless North Waziristan district, a stronghold of Taliban and Al Qaeda-linked militants on the Afghan border, wounded two others, officials said.

Security sources said a senior Pakistani Taliban commander was among the dead, though his identity has not been confirmed.

A second security official confirmed the death toll and told AFP that most of the dead bodies were badly mutilated.

Last week, Obama said that drone strikes can only be used to prevent imminent attacks, when the capture of a suspect is not feasible and if there is a “near certainty” that civilians will not be killed.
