Heyyyyyyy wooorrrrrrrllldddddd!!! How is everybody out there? I’m in Haiti helping out the best that I can!!!

Lemme tell you guys about the eye-opening, life-changing experience that I had over the weekend. As part of the DH Fund, I traveled to Haiti to meet with some of the volunteer workers down there and talk with the children of Haiti in hopes of bringing some cheer to their lives. The people down there are still hurting so bad from the devastating earthquake that hit the country earlier this year, and they still need our help really, really bad because they are years away from this natural disaster!!!

I wrote the other day about how we toured the city and saw how the Cathedral and Presidential Palace were turned to rubble by the earthquake. We saw an area of Port-au-Prince where people were living in tents and taking baths out in the streets because they don’t have homes anymore. It was so sad!!!

On Friday we visited the Haitian Olympic Recreation Program where I got to meet with about 300 of the kids. We played basketball, conducted a camp and I spoke to the group. It was so cool to get to see those kids smiling and having fun again because they’ve had life so tough these last few months.

On Saturday, we visited with the Association of Volunteers in International Service in Cite’ Soleil and we announced that the DH Fund will fund the schooling for 129 students to La Maranatha School for one year. This money will help pay for school uniforms and learning kits for the school year.

Later that day we went to a place called TiTanyen as a part of the Blessings in a Backpack program. We got to meet more kids from the area and I got out on the basketball court and goofed off with them. Again, it was all about making sure they had fun and put smiles on their faces. Ya’ll know I love to laugh and it just warmed my heart seeing those kids laugh and play without a care in the world.

As we were getting ready to leave and fly back to O-town, our flight was delayed and we spent more than 15 hours in the airport. But that time allowed me to spend some quality time with the 50-or-so doctors, nurses and medical technicians who had just finished a volunteer medical assistance trip to Haiti. They were just the coolest people and I tried to thank all of them for what they were doing for the country. I took pictures with a lot of them and signed a few autographs, but mostly it was just about me giving my thanks.

I’ve got to say that this was an eye-opening trip for me. I’m so glad that I went there because what you see on TV just doesn’t do justice to how much devastation and poverty that there is in Haiti. These people still need our help and I’ve got a feeling it will be that way for a couple of years because the country is in such bad shape. I just hope that me going there will help remind people that they still need our help. I know some people have forgotten about the massive earthquake there in Haiti, but those people still need us to help them survive.
