Ice Cube stars in the new movie Lottery Ticket which opened in theaters Friday. I had the chance to talk with Ice Cube about his new movie, his acting history as well as his new album and if there is any beef between Dr. Dre and himself. Check out the interview below.

Xilla: You’ve been a part of some classic movies. Is there anyone that would be your favorite?

Ice Cube: Ohhh man! It’s between “Boys and the Hood” and the first “Friday”. I mean those two movies are real dear to my heart for different reasons. “Boys and the Hood” because it was my first movie, It was a movie about how we grew up. The story we were trying to tell in our movie, here was a movie showing the world. And you know I got love for John Singleton for putting me down. And “Friday”, because it was my first time trying to create something from scratch, making a movie that they would love like I loved growing up, “Uptown Saturday Night”, and “Lets do it again” and “Car Wash.” So I wanted a movie that people could love like that and watch over and over again.

Xilla: You have had a remarkable career. And you’ve made the transition from gangsta rapper, like original OG Gangsta rapper, to the family movie guy. Do you ever look back and just say “Wow”?

Ice Cube: I mean really, not on that tip, because I’m still hardcore gangster rap. In my music anyway. But I do understand that it’s still a total contrast, and that people be like “damn, you came from here to there” but to me, if you hear my music, it’s still the same kind of music. The acting, I mean it is what it is, it’s just acting. It’s not like I don’t turned PG-13 because my kids is older anyway. I mean I’m dealing with (ages of kids) 23, 19, 16, 15, so there’s no reason for me to go PG. So I don’t even trip off it. This is one stage in my career, and we keep it moving. By the end of this thing, we’ll be on to something else

Xilla: Your album comes out my by birthday, September 28th…

Ice Cube: So I picked the perfect date! It’s a good date.

Xilla: Absolutely, you sure did! In your blog you said you were almost done. Is there a particular track that you love a little more than the rest.

Ice Cube: You know I’m digging them all! I like “No Country For Young Men” , you know that’s a banger. “Solo Nights” is dope, “Drink The Kool-Aid” is dope. Lets see, “Nothing Like L.A”, “To West Coast”, Yeah I mean I think I got some bangers on there.

Xilla: You also wrote that you can no longer wait for Dre to get on your album and do anything. How is that with Dre? Is everything okay there?

Ice Cube: Oh yeah everything good! Everyone one a piece of this man’s time, everybody that do music, so sometimes he gotta do what he gotta do his self. He still got his own work that he gotta put out. And I understand that sometimes you don’t want to give all your good idea’s away, you want to keep them for yourself. And I can understand that I can
