Nothing is off limits in Russell Brand’s stand up act, including his marriage to pop princess Katy Perry.
While preparing for his Messiah Complex world tour, Brand reportedly did a small gig at the SoHo Theatre in London. The comedian-turned-actor poked fun at his sex life during his short marriage to Katy, who just released a teaser for her upcoming single “Roar.”
“When I got divorced, I considered becoming a monk,” he said. “When you’re a monk, you’re not allowed to have sex with anyone. When you’re married, it’s one person. That’s one more than a monk. It’s not that different. I’d be having sex thinking, ‘Think of anyone, anyone else.'”
Harsh!
Despite the cruel joke, Russell insists he was faithful during his marriage.
“It’s a hard-core thing, monogamy,” he said in an interview with HuffPost Live. “It’s a hard-core principal. But beautiful, and to be recommended. And if you make a commitment to it, you’ve got to do it. When I was married, monogamy straight down the middle. You can’t mess around with that stuff.”
The two were married just over a year when they called it quits; Russell reportedly told Katy he was divorcing her via text message. Katy has since moved on and is now back with her former beau John Mayer.
