Two men are in custody following last week’s mass shooting in a South Side, Chicago park that left 13 injured, including a 3-year-old boy who was shot in the head.

According to the Chicago Tribune:

The men, both 22, were arrested around 7:30 p.m. Sunday in an abandoned building in the 5200 block of South Marshfield Avenue, police said. No charges have been filed.

One of the men has been identified as the shooter in Thursday’s attack in Cornell Square Park and the other as “one of the individuals who participated in the shooting,” according to a police report.

Police spokesman Adam Collins declined to release additional details about the men in custody, only specifying that detectives were interviewing several people of interest.

The investigation remains active. And 3-year-old Deonta Howard, who was in critical condition on Friday, is now walking, talking and eating, according to his grandmother.

Now that’s some positive news.
