It’s about damn time.

Mariah Carey has decided to hire longtime friend and So So Def founder Jermaine Dupri as her manager. The two music moguls have worked on countless albums together, and after delaying her most recent album, The Art Of Letting Go, Jermaine will step in and help MiMi get her twelfth studio album finished.

Over the past 15 years, Jermaine Dupri has most notably produced Mariah’s smashes “Always Be My Baby,” “Don’t Forget About Us,” “Shake It Off,” and “We Belong Together,” just to name a few.

Over the span of her career, the Atlanta music mogul has assisted Mariah in effortlessly transitioning her sound away from lengthy ballads.

“Even though Mariah always considered herself to be first and foremost a black woman, everyone at the label was scared of her being too urban. She’s far from some ‘hood rat, but she’s definitely a lil’ ghetto and she was tired of being called the ‘ballad queen,'” says Dupri.

Jermaine also said:

A multi-talented artist of Mariah’s caliber should be doing everything imaginable. I’m sure others have said this but not the way I intend to do it. For me, it’s about the execution.”

In regards to that, Carey added:

“We have a bond that surpasses music. I am super excited about our merger because we have so many innovative ideas that I know will come to fruition.”

Last month, Mariah Instagrammed a photo of her in the studio with Nas and JD. The Art Of Letting Go is said to feature production by Rodney Jerkins and Mike WiLL Made-It.

There’s no word yet on when The Art Of Letting Go will be released, but fans should hope for an early 2014 date.
