You better recognize! Kevin Hart and Ice Cube‘s Ride Along broke all January records over the weekend, pulling in around $48 million in four days – the most ever for a MLK Weekend opening.

The film debuted at number one, with an under-performing Devil’s Due and Jack Ryan not even breaking the top 3. Kevin sent a grateful thank you to his fans via Twitter and Instagram, saying:

This shit is surreal…I love my fans unconditionally. Thank you guys for the love & support. This is what I’ve been busting my ass for the last 18yrs for…God is truly amazing!!!! #EverybOdYWAntSToBeFamousButNobodyWantsToDoTheWork #WorkHardSoYouCanPlayHarder #Focused #Motivation #ComedicRockstar

Meanwhile, director Lee Daniels is also bigging up his fans after being snubbed by the Oscars. The Butler director ran into the TMZ cameras at the airport and told them he doesn’t care about an Oscar nomination:

In other movie news, Disney’s classic Sleeping Beauty is getting a modern-day makeover and rewrite from the point of view of the Evil Sorceress. Maleficent stars Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning, and the teaser trailer looks amazing. Check it out below.

Lastly, premium cable channels like HBO and Showtime are taking a beating to streaming television services like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu, so much so, that cable now only leads by 5 percent.

The study, measuring subscription counts between August 2012 and 2013, saw households with premium cable subscriptions in the U.S. fall 6 percent over the course of the year. “As Streaming Video On Demand, services have gained momentum, it’s clear that some consumers are trimming their premium-TV subscriptions,” said NPD’s SVP of industry analysis Russ Crupnick.
