Some celebrity children are fine with being just that—but the same can definitely not be said for Angela Simmons. We may have first been introduced to her as the daughter of Rev Run on their hit show, Run’s House, but now she’s all grown up, and doing grown woman things.

The 26-year-old has got a hustle all her own and working hard to establish her empire, and we’ve continued to watch her find her way through each fashion endeavor, as well as with the launch of her lifestyle website, AngelaIAm.com last year.

And the mini-mogul isn’t stopping there. Earlier this week, Angela launched a Kickstarter campaign to help build AngelaIAmTV, a platform to showcase creative talent and give viewers exclusive access into events revolving around everything from fashion to entertainment, art to music. We got a chance to speak with the very busy businesswoman, so keep on reading for our exclusive interview.

GlobalGrind: Describe some of the difficulties you’ve had working with such a small team.

Angela Simmons: It can definitely be challenging working with such a small team because there are so many tasks that need to be done, obviously, within a company. We don’t have that many people working with us. So at times, we do need extra hands to help get things done. We all take on the task and do so many things that having extra hands would really be helpful.

How is getting other people involved through your Kickstarter campaign going to help overall?

Number one, this visual platform that we’ve created, it’s for everyone. It’s for the up-and-coming talent, it’s for fashion designers, musicians, artists, designers. Getting other people involved is really important because it’s a part of what I’m trying to do.

What’s your overall vision for AngelaIAmTV? Say, five years from now, how do you envision this platform?

AngelaIAmTV is a visual platform for up-and-coming artists, musicians, fashion designers, and overall entertainment. It’s a place that you can come to, and maybe even seek new talent. For me, it’s important to give others a platform. I feel like there’s so many talented individuals out there that don’t have a platform and you don’t see their stuff because they don’t have anywhere to put it. If I could use the followers that I have and give people some sort of recognition just through that platform, I’d be more than happy. On AngelaIAmTV there will be other stuff, like tutorials on how to do makeup, and fashion stuff and entertainment stuff. There will definitely be a wide variety of stuff on the site.

It’s online right now, but do you one day want to see it on television?

That would be awesome. One step at a time. I think right now everything is pretty much online, and that’s where everyone’s eyes are. We’re always on Instagram or always on Facebook or always on Twitter. Right now, this is the best place for it, AngelaIAmTV online. It’s our now.

As far as the talent goes, how have you gone about discovering these new artists and musicians?

We find them on Instagram, we find them online, and we reach out to them. If we see them and we notice their work, we personally reach out to them. AngelaIAmTV would be really helpful as somewhere they can send their stuff into, and then it’s an easier process. To know that you have a home to come to and we could help you, I think that’s the best part of it all.

You’ve had such a major success doing your own thing as an entrepreneur. Do you have any advice for those trying to break out in the creative industry, whether it’s through music, entertainment, fashion, or even art?

My thing is, just go for it. It’s really important that whatever it is that you love–You don’t wake up one day and have all the answers, but I think you just jump into because you love it and you’re passionate about it. With any project I started, I’m passionate about it, and I’ve just jumped in. You learn as you go and you make sure you have mentors around you that can teach you about what you’re doing, and you just go for it. It’s definitely about just jumping in head-first.

You are the daughter of hip-hop royalty. How difficult has it been for you to make a name for yourself and distinguish your own brand?

It’s a constant thing, honestly. I’m very thankful and I come from a great background–To have that tie is incredible, but to be an individual is really different. I come from my family, but I am my own person. It’s definitely challenging because people always tie you back to that and they feel like because you come from this background, that everything is given to you. I work extremely hard on all the projects that I do and AngelaIAmTV is an example of that. It’s something that me and my team saw made perfect sense, and we just jumped in. It was something that originally came up because I’ve worked with so many up-and-coming designers, and I just love seeking talent. When I see someone really talented, I get really excited. So, to be able to share that with the world is really important to me. There are so many eyes that are watching my page that could potentially see a great musician or designer, and think, ‘Hey, I could work with this person.’ I’m all about giving back and helping people. If I can help the next generation, or whoever it may be, get to their goals or their dreams, I’d be more than happy to assist.

How has the response from your fans been so far? You’re still growing AngelaIAmTV, but you have such a huge fan base.

It’s definitely an organic growth. The fans and the people who love it are really supportive. With the Kickstarter, we really need to get it out there more. Obviously $25,000 is not going to blow AngelaIAmTV out the water tomorrow, and I’m really aware of that. Right now, I’ve been putting in the money and doing everything I need to do to make sure AngelaIAmTV is where it’s at. At the end of the day, I’m creating this platform for others. It’s not just me that I’m looking out for. I want everyone to be supportive because I’m going to support all these people who are up-and-coming and I’m going to give them my platform. The support is really needed and I really hope that we do make the goal by the 29th day. If 25,000 people donate a $1, we make our goal. It’s something I’m passionate about, and I really want people to get involved. The sky’s the limit.

We’re still a little ways away from New York Fashion Week, but can you tell us what you have brewing with that?

Well, it may be a little premature, but I’m working on some pretty cool stuff. I don’t want to make any promises, but I’m always thinking outside of the box.

Judging by what you’ve done in the past, we know it’ll be pretty awesome. We’re excited to see what happens with that. And what else do you have in store?

I’m working on a clothing line, so I’m super excited about that. But right now, my main focus is AngelaIAmTV and AngelaIAm.com. I’m all about supporting each other. There’s so many great startup businesses that don’t have the visual eyes and I want to help be those eyes.
