After the horrific footage of New York resident Eric Garner being placed in a chokehold by the NYPD (which ultimately led to his death) made its way around the web, people everywhere wanted answers.
According to BigStory.org, Medical examiner spokeswoman Julie Bolcer said Friday that Eric Garner’s July 17 death has been ruled a homicide. Bolcer says his death was caused by “the compression of his chest and prone positioning during physical restraint by police.”
She also added that asthma and heart disease were contributing factors. In the video, Garner is seen yelling at the police and accusing them of harassing him consistently, as well as shooting down their beliefs that he is continuing to sell untaxed cigarettes.
The NYPD has yet to comment. Eric Garner’s wife and six children are in our prayers.
