Just a day before House Republicans begin their eighth investigation into the 2012 Benghazi attacks, former View host Elisabeth Hasselbeck attempted to compare the tragedy to domestic violence because…Fox News.
That’s the only way we can make sense of Hasselbeck’s far-reaching and offensive comparison — the television personality is currently a host on the network’s Fox & Friends, which has long made comparisons and speculations regarding the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.
So in an attempt to piggyback on the National Football League’s recent domestic violence incidents, Hasselbeck tweeted this:
Imagine if everyone that asked for transparency in the #nfl @nfl Demanded that same #transparency in our #government #Benghazi #IRS

Um…what?
The tweet generated criticism and outrage, to which Hasselbeck responded by explaining she spoke with the mother of one of the people killed in Benghazi. According to the Fox host, she believed that “Inserting #Benghazi” into the NFL discussions “is NOT ridiculous-IT IS AN #HONOR.”
Not surprising. Fox News didn’t think aligning Benghazi with these other news stories was ridiculous either:
Republicans and Fox News over the past two years have often attempted to link the Benghazi attacks to an array of seemingly unconnected issues, including the crisis in Ukraine, Gov. Chris Christie’s bridge scandal, the release of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, immigration reform, deaths in Syria, and the resignation of former CIA Director David Petraeus.
Glad to know that Hasselbeck isn’t alone. Excuse us for the sarcasm.
