The father of a 6-year-old boy fatally stabbed in South Los Angeles is thought to be the suspect by police, a sheriff official confirmed Thursday morning.
The boy died after being stabbed multiple times in the upper torso. Just after midnight, deputies responded to the call of a person screaming in the California neighborhood. When police arrived, they found the young child with a slight pulse.
Deputies administered life-saving efforts to try and save the boy, then rushed him to St. Francis Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities are investigating at the hospital as well as the initial location to determine the cause.
The boy’s father, whose name has not been released, was covered in blood when deputies arrived on scene. He was detained and questioned, but was not charged with a crime.
The mother of the boy was not at the scene. Police are currently looking for her or any of the boy’s siblings. An investigation continues.
