Ridley Scott’s epic new film Exodus: Gods & Kings comes out next Friday. You probably shouldn’t see it.

It’s one of the most blatantly racist movies we’ve seen in years. The movie, which tells the story of Moses’ battle with Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses, stars a cast of white people as the leads: Christian BaleAaron PaulJohn Turturro, Sigourney Weaver, and Joel Edgerton.

Don’t forget: this is a movie based in the multiracial, multicultural country of Egypt. And while Ridley Scott has been asked about his all-white casting choices, the director chalked it up to movie-making politics. (We will all just ignore the fact that the Denzel Washington-helmed American Gangster is one of his highest-grossing movies.)

But this is not entirely surprising. Hollywood has a long history of whitewashing real life and fictional people in their movies. Click through the gallery below to see some of the most offensive examples.
