Anger over the decision not to indict the officer who killed Eric Garner with a chokehold can be felt very prominently throughout the streets of NYC.
Protests have been taking over the Big Apple and things got just as intense, if not more, on the second night of demonstrations, as around 223 people were arrested for disorderly conduct or refusal to clear the streets.
According to ABC News, protesters gathered in Foley Square before taking their “No justice, no peace” chants to the Brooklyn Bridge, where some carried replicas of coffins. Traffic came to a near standstill near the Holland Tunnel, as protestors marched along the entrance, as well as the Manhattan Bridge and West Side Highway.
The decision not to indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo, as well as the similar grand jury outcome in Ferguson to not indict Officer Darren Wilson, has sparked national outrage, with protests also taking place in Washington, D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, and Denver.
Reports say Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton announced plans to give new training to over 22,000 officers with better techniques that will make the public feel more protected.
