A 14-year-old Chicago teenager stabbed his 16-year-old brother to death in a kitchen fight on Wednesday morning, police say.
The 14-year-old stabbed brother Larry Miles in the back during the fight. The mother of the two tried to break up the scuffle, but before she could do so, the younger brother grabbed a 12-inch knife from the kitchen and stabbed Miles to death.
According to the Chicago Tribune:
Officers arrived at the home in the 100 block of West 29th Street around 7:15 a.m. and found the boys’ sister trying to give CPR to the 16-year-old, Larry Miles, police said. The 14-year-old fled but was escorted back home by his grandfather a short time later, police said.
Miles died Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. in the emergency room of St. James Hospital and Health Center in Chicago Heights. The family is devastated.
“It’s a tragic event,” South Chicago Heights police Chief Bill Joyce said. “Any loss of young life is a tragedy, and I think the tragedy is even compounded when it’s at the hands of a sibling.”
Authorities are working with the Cook County state’s attorney’s office to investigate the case, but no charges against the teenage boy have been filed as of yet.
The 14-year-old boy is currently in the custody of his grandfather.
