After welcoming a new baby earlier this year with wife Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds is opening up about fatherhood in the most recent issue of GQ and of course, it just wouldn’t be Ryan without a touch of humor.

In addition to discussing the bond he’s already formed with his newborn daughter, the Deadpool star also spoke about a recent falling-out with a long-time friend, and the lack of awards he’s received as an actor.

Check out the highlights below.

On what he’s learned since becoming a father:

“I’ve learned that an inordinate amount of clichés are completely true,” Reynolds says. “Like, there is this kid here that I would walk through fire for. Or maybe not fire. Like, a very hot pavement, I’d walk through. A shag rug.”

On a recent falling-out with a friend:

“It was like a death. It was like one of those devastating things to find out,” says actor Ryan Reynolds of discovering his friend of 25 years was shopping around pictures of his daughter. “It was like so kind of shocking. There isn’t really a conversation to have. It’s just, ‘Oh, well, now I’m never going to see you or talk to you again, unfortunately.”

On his lack of award wins:

“That hasn’t been the chief sort of goal for me at all. I mean, even if it was the chief goal for me, I don’t know if I could ever be in that ring.”
