Sam Adams a name you know as a beer but that’s not what were talking about here. Sam is an up and coming musician from Boston, who has been able to build his career up from posting one of his songs, ‘I Hate College Remix,’ on youtube.

After posting the video online Sam Adams was able to take his music to the next level and became an iTunes sensation, without any kind of traditional radio or promotional campaign he was able to land at number 1 on the hip-hop charts and number 2 overall.

Last week, July 13, Sam Adams was able to release the physical copy of his album, Boston’s Boy. The album has in total 12 songs including 4 new tracks since its original release on iTunes.

Recently GG got a chance to catch up with Sam Adams before one of his sold out shows at the Gramercy Theater in New York City. Based on his music and style I expected him to have a laid back and fun personality, I was not disappointed.

Vicky Misha: What led up to point of you putting ‘I Hate College’ online? What made you do that?

Sam Adams: I don’t know I was just f*cking around. I came up with something catchy. I wrote half the song and then sort of sat on it for a month and then went back and re-recorded it. I actually wrote the second verse while I was in class. It just sort of came together. There wasn’t any thing up to that point. I had been rapping for 3 years before that.

We released it. Up to that I had recorded but I never wrote a song, I was just f*cking around with my boys in a cheap studio. After that I started taking it seriously. Then I wrote Boston’s Boy with this young man over here (talking about his Manager Alex Stern) and we did really well.

V.M: What was it like going from messing around putting your music on youtube, to being an iTunes sensation, to being able to put out a hard copy of your cd?

Sam: It’s really cool. Everything in the last six months has been a whirlwind. It’s overwhelming, it’s fun, it’s really stressful a mix of all those. It’s really really nice to have your own physical CD out. It feels really good like you accomplished something. Cause you can’t really see the digital aspect of it. That’s why our success almost felt surreal for as long as it did because we’re selling all these records but like you don’t actually see it. It’s defiantly a milestone in my career.

V.M: What’s your favorite track off your album?

Sam: Probably ‘Comin up’ or ‘Just love here.’ Those are probably my favs.

V.M: What’s your inspiration for your lyrics?

Sam: Life. Most of the songs I write are pretty much direct experience I’ve gone through. Some of my songs are just a ton of things put into a verse that all about one thing I felt. Everything’s pretty accurate and true.

V.M: Who would be your dream collaboration with?

Sam: Right now? Probably a big name DJ like Dead Mouse, Tiësto or Pretty Lights, someone of that realm. In terms of rap either Nas or Jay-Z. If you could bring people back from the dead Biggie</str
