President Barack Obama and Prince‘s favorite bassist has just released a new video for the song ‘Little Fly’. ‘Little Fly’ sets the words of William Blake’s poem The Fly to original music. In addition to Spalding’s bass, she’s accompanied by a harmonic trio of strings that works seamlessly with her voice to create a new world for the classic poem.
Blake’s The Fly was written in 1789 and published in his collection Songs of Innocence and of Experience. This literary work is highly regarded as a reflection of overall perceptions during the Romantic period. The video gives the viewer an intimate look at Spalding during her recording session.
‘Little Fly’ will appear of Esperanza Spalding’s upcoming album Chamber Music Society which is due in stores on August 17, 2010.
