‘As Long as I have God I have everything I need’ is the very first thing you notice when you pull up Tommie Thomas’ twitter page (@Tommo12Thomas). Tommie is on a mission but also realizes that he cannot complete it on his own!  Tommie told me that he puts God before EVERYTHING then family, school, and sports fall after each other. This lifestyle and mentality is extremely rare to find in any individual, let alone a collegiate student-athlete!

Be on the lookout for #12! This young Purdue Wide Receiver has a bright career ahead of him! You heard it from me first! Some may wonder why Tommie wears #12, reason is; he has 5 brothers and 6 sisters making 12 total siblings when including him. Family is HUGE for Tommie, he told me that is what he values most in life as well as his close relationship with his Mother. I asked Tommie how football has specifically helped him become the person who he is today, and he said “It has made me realize that if you work hard, nothing is impossible”. That’s such a simple, but powerful mentality for an athlete to possess! With that attitude, you can accomplish ANYTHING you put your mind to!

Here’s the company of some former Purdue football players who have gone down the same path Tommie is currently pursuing; Mike Alstott, Rod Woodson, and Drew Brees (current Saints QB), just to name a few. And if you know football, you know how great all three of their careers have been; all Super Bowl Champions actually; Mike Alstott with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Rod Woodson with the Baltimore Ravens, and Drew Brees with the New Orleans Saints. Purdue produces Super Bowl Champions and with the mindset that Tommie Thomas holds, he could easily be one of the next!

One of the biggest things I wanted to know about Tommie was what he thought separated him from everyone else in life, and he simply said “the thing that separates me from others in life is that I will never stop smiling and having fun at what I do.” You know what they say… It takes 37 muscles to frown and only 22 muscles to smile. Sounds simple, but obviously it’s not or else we would have a lot more happier people in this world! Last, I wanted Tommie to leave some advice to everyone reading about him, he said “if you don’t know where you want to go in life, my best advice for you is to talk to God and he’ll guide you in the right direction.” I think we ALL can learn a thing or two from Tommie!
