It’s a funny thing when Sean Kingston, one of today’s most popular reggae-pop singers, tries to track you down to sign you to his record label, and you ignore him. What is funnier is when Sean Kingston doesn’t give up, finally gets your attention and signs you to his record label. But the funniest thing of them all is when your debut single hits #1 on the Billboard Pop chart, you have songs produced by J.R Rotem, the same man behind hits from artists like Plies, Jason DeRulo, and Rihanna, and you participated in the historic ‘We Are The World 25’. Who is this might you ask? Well if you turn on any Top 40 radio station in America, most likely hear that addictive song ‘Replay’. Well the person behind that hit is Iyaz!

The British Virgin Island native signed to Beluga Heights/Warner Brothers Music Group earlier last year, and has put out two chart topping hits since then. He hobnobs with Justin Bieber, does duets with Jason DeRulo, and aspires to collaborates with rock group Green Day. And last night I, along with GG Bloger RachelSamara got to interview him and watch him perform yesterday night. He spoke about everything where he got the name ‘Iyaz’ from (It’s his Grandfathers name) to what he describes his sound as (Island Pop all the way!) Later that night, he performed at a PACKED Steve Madden event, where everyone who was anyone (Julissa Bermudez, ‘The City’s Erin Lucas) partied to his music, sipped on Jamaican Red Stripe, and danced the night away.

The humble artist new where his success was coming from, and showed much love to those fans who got him where he was. When performing an Island version of Trey Songz’s hit ‘Say Aah’ he pulled a adoring fan on stage and danced around with her and posed for pictures after. After his set, he went outside and took pictures for those lined up fans who were not able to get inside the invite-only event. I must say, he has to be one of my favorite new artist of 2010. Look out for Iyaz people, because he is what I call the next big thing!
