Northern Illinois University police are investigating a shooting that wounded a student early Friday on the campus in northwestern DeKalb. An NIU student was injured and taken to Kiswaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb. A condition was not immediately available.
The shooting appears to be an “isolated incident between two individuals” and the shooter was taken into custody. DeKalb police confirmed a person was in custody but would not give further details. The NIU Police & Public Safety office issued the “all clear” and the campus remains open. Classes will be held as usual. Further details will be issued at a press conference at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Altgeld Hall auditorium.
