Nicki Minaj aka Nicki Lewinski, aka, Harajuku Barbie, whatever you want to call her is KILLING the rap game right now.
Since 2007, Nicki Minaj has released three mixtapes, one collaboration album, and been featured on over twenty tracks. Since her 2009 mixtape release “Beam Me up Scotty” her rap career has went from 0-60 in a matter of months. It’s safe to say when a fan hears Nicki’s voice on a track, they instantly turn the volume to full blast just to see what dope verse Nicki is going to drop.
In an interview with Billboard.com Nicki says, ‘The lack of female rappers has in some ways made it easier to come up because now there’s an open lane for me,’ Minaj says. ‘I salute the female rappers who came before me, but it’s my time now.’
A lot of female rappers have put it down before Nicki got in the game, but in my opinion the only one who still resides above her is Lil Kim. Lil Kim is going to be a hard act to follow, so I hope Nicki is ready to put in overtime.
Although the female rapper screams sexy every time you see her, and uses her sex appeal to her advantage, that’s not all she wants to been seen as. Lately, we’ve been seeing her making goofy faces in music videos and during performances. Nicki says those faces are for entertainment, she doesn’t want her fans to think she’s always trying to be cute or sexy.
Nicki Minaj is scheduled to drop her first solo album, “Nicki World: Barbie World” in 2010.
