New York Knicks forward, Amar’e Stoudemire teamed up with the Knicks City Dancers and Madison Square Garden Network’s Gus Johnson for a school-supplies-donation event to help kick-off the new school year and ensure that 100 students have the tools they need to succeed in school this year.

Stoudemire, on behalf of the Garden of Dreams Foundation picked up 20 of these students by bus after school and carried them to the Dunlevy Milbank Center in Harlem, NY where the Knicks City Dancers performed for the children in the center’s gymnasium, followed by a discussion on the importance of education, lead by Gus Johnson and Amar’e.

We had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Amar’e at the event where the crowd was so hyped that we ducked into a school bus for a few minutes with him.

How long have you worked with the Garden of Dreams Foundation? Since I signed with the New York Knicks back in July.

What kind of events do you have coming up with the Foundation? Any event that involves education is going to be an event we’re interested in.

Who is involved in the program with you and what do you do? The whole New York Knicks team is involved and there are many branches including the     Amar’e Stoudemire Each One, Teach One Foundation, whose focus is to cure poverty through education.  We also have an African Student Exchange program that is doing  well where students from African nations are brought to the United States to pursue an education.  I’ve also sponsored some AAU summer teams that carry supplies and play basketball tournaments abroad.

For those who want to get involved with the organization, how can we help? You can log onto www.amarestoudemire.com to learn more about the foundation and all that we do!
