John Legend & The Roots‘collaborative album Wake Up, which you can stream in it’s entirety here, hasn’t even hit stores yet – it will be released on September 21 – but they’ve already commissioned a follow-up project. They have hooked up with popular DJ J. Period for Wake Up! Radio, a mixtape that . The first leak of of that mixtape, a remix of ‘Our Generation,’ sees Legend singing over Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth’s classic instrumental for ‘Let’s Straighten It Out.’ Both John Legend and Pete Rock are indebted to classic soul music, they just express that influence in different ways. This song is a perfect melding of their two worlds. We are definitely looking forward to hearing what the rest of Wake Up! Radio has to offer.
