Hi Fam! It’s been a little busy lately but I wanted to take a moment to write you all about a few things. Last week on FB I urged everyone to get out and go to the polls for the latest mid-term elections. Yes people, although I’m thousands of miles away, I still stay up on whats happening and care about your voting.  Some of you may have taken my advice and some of you may have not.  Either way, the following is just some food for thought.

Before and after the final counts had been tallied and the winners had been announced, as expected there had been much buzz about who was leading, what party would be in control, and what we were to expect? With all the chatter, I took a step back and wondered “Now What?” Not about what we’ll see as a result of this shift in political power but what about us, the citizens? What have we learned about this latest election? I learned that we didnt take a stand like we did 2 years ago and it showed.  Not in the win or loss of any particular party, but in the actual number of participating voters.

Are we now seeing how important it is to be counted? Can we look at the voter turn out for the midterms and compare them to the historic numbers that showed up at the polls in 2008 for the presidential election? Where did the people go?  Sure, many people headed to the polls in 2008 just to be a part of history but what about voting at all elections?  Lets get back to recognizing how much power there is in numbers.  Our forefathers fought hard for us ALL to have the right to vote.  Lets make use of that right by planning ahead and making conscious efforts to learn about our candidates and encourage one another to step out and vote.  We owe it to ourselves!

Going forward, I know i will…

xoxo,
