Dear President Obama & Arizona Officials,

Let it be affirmed: border security is essential to American security and wellbeing moving forward.

The Federal Government’s continued ignorance to the illegal immigration issue is at best negligent, and at worse, appauling. Arizona’s response aimed to stem illegal immigration is understandable but also excessive.

Arizona, along with the American people, have been directly harmed by the insufficient approach to border security taken by the Bush and now Obama administration. To me, this is not merely an anti-illegal-immigration issue, it is about upholding the law and ensuring American safety.

For instance, if over 12 million poor Hispanic immigrants can find avenues into this country how easily do well-funded terrorists glide into our homeland?

The “war on drugs” can never be won, but the continued ease of drug smuggling across the border is inexcusable.

Furthermore, the present despicable and endless violence just across the United States border in Mexico IS, and according to some has, infiltrated the United States. Kidnappings and calls for ransom tied to Mexican drug smuggling has significantly increased in Arizona over the last two years.

The fact of the matter is that the United States MUST finally take a strong and proactive role along the border. The American people deserve it. Continued indifference and “political correctness” serves no one’s interests other than those toeing the political line and attempting to stay in office. This is not an assault on immigrants, this is a practical and fair response to the illegal immigration issue. It is imperative that the United States finally acknowledges our illegal immigration problem and take steps to stem it while encouraging legal immigration into the United States. This is how:

  1. Ensure safety of America
    1. How?
      1. Beef up the border
      2. Be diligent in the workplace
      3. Federal Government serve as sole overseer
    2. Beefing up the border

      2. Deploy advanced technology to stem drug and human trafficking
      3. Encourage research and development of such technology
    3. Electronic verification
      1. Patience
      2. Phase in
      3. Ensure that privacy, accuracy, and security of such systems are sufficient
    4. Federal Government retains control
      1. Essential for organization, planning, and accountability
  2. Remedy status of illegals already here
    1. 12 million people
      1. Deportation of all would cost nearly $300 billion over five years.
    2. How?
      1. Pursue registration of undocumented persons
    3. Documenting the undocumented
      1. Must require undocumented immigrants to submit to background checks, pay taxes, learn English, and pay a fine in order to obtain legal status for themselves, their spouses, and minor children.
    4. Security threats
      1. Bar those convicted of serious crimes or who pose a security threat.
  3. Generate legal channels that are flexible, serve the U.S. interest, and curtail illegal immigration.
    1. How?
      1. Establish a system that replaces illegal immigration and backlogs with a flexible framework that advances the nation’s dual interest in economic growth and family unity.
      2. Discretionary pool of visas that can be allocated flexibly.
      3. Maintain the current family and employment preference categories and level with o
