We all know what happened to the Twinkie that sat out for years — nothing. No mold, no decay.

What would happen to a McDonald’s Happy Meal if you left it out in the open for SIX months? That’s exactly what Manhattan artist Sally Davies set out to find.

Dubbed ‘The Happy Meal Project,’ Sally chronicled the six month journey of the fast food meal only to find that not much changed.

She plated the Happy Meal, (fries and hamburger) and left it out in the open to let nature take its course. Only it didn’t work. There was no trace of mold or decay on the fries, burger and even the bun!

‘The fries shrivelled slightly as did the burger patty, but the overall appearance of the food did not change as the weeks turned to months.’ Sally says to UK’s Dailymail.

Check out the incredible progress of the Happy Meal that never decays.

Day One

‘I bought the meal on April 10 of this year and brought it home with the express intention of leaving it out to see how it fared,’ says Sally.

Day 35

‘I chose McDonald’s because it was nearest to my house, but the project could have been about any other of the myriad of fast food joints in New York.’

Day 94

It’s been over 3 months, and still the meal looks as fresh as it did on Day 1.

Check out what it looked like on the 6th month mark!

Day 171

‘And now, at six months old, the food is plastic to the touch and has an acrylic sheen to it. ‘The only change that I can see is that it has become hard as a rock.’
