Aaron McGruder and the Boondocks are ready to return to television for a third season after a two and a half year hiatus. Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder said the show’s much anticipated return should happen around March 28th. Cartoon Network has yet to send out an official announcement to confirm a premiere date for the new season.

However Regina King, voice of Huey and Riley, vented her frustration and excitement over the shows 2 year break. ‘I am so happy that it is coming back, I wish there was some website that people could send [a message] to Sony [Television Entertainment] … and say ‘What are you doing?”

Regina King continues ”Boondocks could be so bigger than what it is. If I had the money to buy ‘The Boondocks’ off Sony, I would because all of you would be wearing ‘Boondocks’ T-shirts and there would be Huey and Riley dolls. I would capitalize off of that, and I would be a very rich woman.’

This season of ‘Boondocks’ is said to be one of the realest yet with Huey and cast coming for a lot of heads. There is even an episode called Crank That Artichoke. King spoke of the show’s success with fans saying ‘[When the kids] are seeing it in a video, it’s cool, but when you see it silly in a cartoon, it’s like, ‘Yeah, Soulja Boy isn’t that dope,’ she laughed.

‘No diss to him, but we have in the new episodes this song where they guy is [rapping] ‘Crank That Artichoke’ because some of the hooks are so ridiculous. Of course, Aaron is going to go in and I’m excited about it.’

Personally I can’t wait for the show to return to television, I’ve been a fan of the comic since it ran in newspapers and I even have all of the books. Aaron McGruder is a visionary and one of the great minds in the entertainment world. Once the show returns I hope it doesn’t take another two year break, I’m not sure my heart can handle this type of anticipation again.

‘For a show to take two and half year hiatuses and people still want it to come back, that’s big,’ Regina King
