The Vancouver 2010 games have given us great thrills but also some gut-wrenching spills.  From failed attempts at redemption to overcoming personal loses and narrowly missing gold, a pictorial look at these winter games:

 

Lindsey Jacobellis had the gold in hand in Torino when a little showboating left her crashing with silver.  This time around, she wasn’t even in medal contention after being disqualified.

Another Lindsey got her gold and then in an attempt at more glory, Lindsey Vonn crashed and burned.

Sven Kramer, a Dutch national hero, finished first in the Men’s 10,000 meter race but did not get gold because of an error his coach made.

Slovakian hockey player, Lubos Bartecko, missed the rest of his team’s win aganst Norway after suffering a major head injury.  Luckily, he is now in stable condition.

No loss is greater than the loss of life.  Nodar Kumaritashvilli gave the greatest sacrifice in the story that started these Olympic Games.

And tonight, Canadian figure skating champion, Joannie Rochette keeps her hopes alive after the unexpected loss of her mother earlier this week.  We wish her the best of luck!
