Nicki Minaj has a wholehearted honesty session in the August issue of Marie Claire magazine. While opening up about her time as a judge on American Idol, we see a new vulnerable side of the badass Barbie.

It’s really only been a couple of years since Nicki signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money record label. In those few short years we’ve seen all different Nicki Minaj personas: colored wigs, leggings, faces, and voices. But one thing remained constant: she’s a straight go-getter.

Perhaps Nicki’s judging role on Idol shined the true light on who she really is:

The perception that people had of me completely changed because there are no cue cards, there’s no script, it wasn’t me performing a song. It was, ‘Let’s see your real personality.’

She goes on to say…

My core is a genuine human being who roots for other people. I didn’t want to blow smoke up their ass. I wanted every contestant to leave with something that they could remember.

The Barbz – her loyal fans – stand by every inch of her journey and she’s so thankful for them…

I tell my Barbz, ‘You guys know the difference between rap, play, and dead-ass serious.’ They know the difference between those three Nickis. And they’re so smart. They teach me every day. They’re the meat and potatoes of who Nicki Minaj is.

As she continues to build her empire, a possible film career might very well be in the future. Will Nicki kick rapping to the curb and pursue her childhood dreams of being an actress? Well, it’s a possibility…

One day, when I start getting a couple gray hairs, maybe it will all be only acting. I just never know. I’ve kind of become the poster child for doing the things that no one expects.

And while she doesn’t get too personal about her love life, the Pink Friday rapper did leave us with a very interesting bit of advice:

Don’t chase any man. Put your school first. Men love independent women. You don’t have to be a b*tch, but there’s nothing wrong with it at times. And: Men are kids at heart. They want to be nourished and pet like a dog.

Something else we didn’t expect? Nicki plans on becoming a mother someday:

I was praying every day, ‘You know what, Lord? I want to be a mom one day, and I want to start becoming the woman who I want to parent my child.’ I wanted all of the feelings of entitlement to leave me, because some people have this life for a year or five or 10 – and a lot of them lose it. I didn’t want to become a person who wasn’t enjoying the moment.

What will Nicki’s future hold? We’ll have to wait and see.

For now get more of Nicki in Marie Claire’s accompanying video, where she dishes in between takes and shut’s down her stylist by saying NO to real fur!
